April 12 was spent in Costa Rica with my shooting buddy, Sunny. Since it was our first day, we ran out of time to post, so here I am taking you back with me to that first day of wonder with a new camera, and a gorgeous land. If I could choose any day, I might show you different pictures. But come along with me on the 12th...

Beautiful canna blossoms at Casa Conde in San Jose just before we boarded the bus. 8:45 am

Lunch stop was at El Jardin in San Ramon. We enjoyed rice and beans and chicken and then toted our cameras to the butterfly garden. Here is a blue morpho with its wings folded. It looks very different when it unfolds those wings. 2:05 pm

What did I tell you? Looks like a different butterfly, huh? Blue Morpho Butterfly unfolded - 2:09 pm

Another beautiful creature, the Owl Butterfly, cleverly disguised for its predators as - well, the eye of an owl. If you're a bird who snacks on butterflies, an owl is certainly a diversion. But if the eye fails to scare the bird, and he bites for the "caterpillar" he thinks he sees along the edge of the wing, the butterfly can escape with only minor injuries. Nature provides interesting camouflage. 2:15 pm

Beautiful Costa Rica. Snapped on the fly out of the window of the bus. 3:18 pm

First sighting of the Arenal volcano. Again, from the window of the bus. 3:54 pm

Another food stop in the little town of La Fortuna de San Carlos
produced a photo op at the local church - St. John Bosco Catholic Church.
(La Fortuna was aptly renamed to reflect its good fortune in missing the
destruction of the volcano.) 4:36 pm

Flowers from the pretty hedge surrounding the church. 4:39 pm

Inside the beautiful little church, some people had come to meditate. 4:47 pm

Pink Ginger. 4:54 pm

Don't you just love the cheerful Central American colors? 4:56 pm

Ah, Arenal. The volcano we traveled all day to see. If you look closely you can see a bit of steam escaping from the top. It has been very active, but wouldn't you know it? It rested the whole time we were there...... *sigh* 5:24 pm
And that, Gracious Reader, was my first day in Costa Rica; April 12, 2011. It was a travel day, and were I able to choose from ANY day, I might have picked differently the things I would like you to see in this glorious land. Thanks for being patient. See you next month!

Beautiful! Boy, the texture on those butterflies makes me feel like I could reach right out and touch one! I think my favorites are the florals - such striking colors, but they are all so pleasing. Well done, Momma!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sweetheart! Wish you could've brought your camera along with us! Maybe next time.....
